Uisce Éireann customers in the scenic Connemara village of An Spidéal can look forward to an improved supply of water as a programme of mains upgrades gets underway.
Crews will be arriving to Both Chuanna Thoir (Bohoona East) from next week to begin works on replacing 355 metres of aging water mains with new, modern pipes as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
These upgrades are being carried out in response to high instances of bursts on the local network, and to drive down high rates of leakage from the old pipework. The result will be a more secure supply of water for domestic and business customers in the area, with a higher quality of drinking water in the tap and fewer operational issues going forward.
Enda Mac Namara, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said that residents, business-owners and visitors to An Spidéal will all enjoy the benefits of these upgrades works.
“We are delighted to be commencing this programme of upgrades in An Spidéal. These significant upgrades will provide a more reliable supply for our customers, while reducing the risk of operational disturbances on the network and helping us work toward our goal of reducing the volume of treated drinking water lost to underground leakage,” said Enda.
In order to carry out these mains upgrades safely, a local road closure will be required at Both Chuanna Thoir (the L-52013-0). Traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the road closure, however local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
All works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction. Works are due to begin next week and are expected to be completed by mid-summer.
Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme has dedicated teams working across the country to fix on average 2,000 leaks per month.
