Leakage reduction works kick off in Inverin

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann crews will arrive in Inverin’s Cor na Rón later this month to begin leakage reduction works.

They will replace almost 900 metres of old water mains to bring a more reliable water supply to the area.

The project will also include the installation of new water service connections from the public water main to customers’ property boundaries. These upgrades will help strengthen the network and reduce water lost through leakage.

These leakage reduction works will result in fewer bursts, reduced outages and a significant reduction in clean drinking water lost to the ground.

The project covers two separate local road sections located approximately 1.7km apart along the R336.

The works will take place at the following locations:

  • Boithrín na Ceartán (Road numbers: L 5205 0, L 5205 2 and L 5205 4)
  • Boithrín Com Thaidhg (Road number: L 52046 0)

To facilitate safe construction:

  • A local road diversion will be in place while works are carried out on Boithrín na Ceartán.
  • Two way traffic lights will be required at connection points on the R336

Local signage will be provided to help road users navigate the area during the works. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times, and customers will receive at least 48 hours’ notice of any planned water interruptions.

Uisce Éireann’s Enda Mac Namara said: “Every upgrade we deliver is an investment in the future of our communities. By replacing ageing pipes and tackling leakage, we are protecting precious water resources, improving day to day reliability, and building a network that will better serve communities for decades to come. Every leak repaired brings us closer to a cleaner, more efficient and more sustainable water system.”

The project will be delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction and is expected to be completed by summer 2026.

Uisce Éireann acknowledges that these necessary works can be inconvenient and thanks the local community for their patience and cooperation. Crews will make every effort to minimise disruption.

“The long-term benefits will be worth the short-term effort,” added Enda.

The Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre, open 24/7 on freephone 1800 278 278, is available to answer any queries.
