Loughrea Town Water Mains Replacement
Uisce Éireann has replaced ageing, problematic water mains in Loughrea Town, Co. Galway to provide a safer and more secure water supply, improve water quality and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of 1.8km of aged problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The project to replace the water mains in Loughrea Town, Co.Galway commenced in early July 2023. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place at Castle Street, Church Street, King Street, Kelly Street, Piggott Street, Moore Street, Dolphin Street, Mount Carmel Crescent, Athenry Road, Liam Mellows Terrace, Cross Street and St. Brendan's Day Care Centre.
The works improved the water network in Loughrea Town.
The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side were lead they were replaced as part of this improvement work.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction and completed by Summer 2024.

- Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
