Arthurstown, Ballyhack & Duncannon Wastewater Treatment Plant

Uisce Éireann has completed works to eliminate raw sewage being discharged directly into the Barrow, Nore & Suir Estuary.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Wexford County Council, has completed works to end the discharge of raw sewage from Arthurstown, Ballyhack and Duncannon. This €15.6 million investment involved the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Arthurstown which also serves Ballyhack and Duncannon. John SISK & Son Ltd. carried out works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

• Construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at Arthurstown to serve a population equivalent of 1,875, eliminating raw sewage being discharged to the estuary.
• Development of three new wastewater pumping stations near the existing outfalls at Arthurstown, Ballyhack and Duncannon.
• Construction of sewer pipelines to bring untreated wastewater to the wastewater treatment plant and treated water to the existing outfall pipe at Arthurstown.
• The existing outfall pipe at Arthurstown will safely discharge the treated wastewater effluent to the Barrow, Nore & Suir Estuary.

The new wastewater treatment plant and sewerage infrastructure will now bring benefits to the area including:

• Improved water quality in Barrow, Nore & Suir Estuary.
• Protection of recreational waters for swimming, surfers, fishing, boating and   sightseeing.
• Cleaner water will enhance the amenity value of the beaches and harbours at Arthurstown, Ballyhack and Duncannon and act as a platform for social and economic development.
