Works progressing to future proof Ballymahon’s water supply
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann is continuing to progress significant upgrades to the water network in Ballymahon, with the next stage of works moving into the commissioning phase of the newly installed network along the N55.
To safely commission the new infrastructure, a planned interruption will take place on Tuesday, 10 February. Customers in the Ballymahon and Kilcurry areas may experience low water pressure or temporary loss of supply between 1pm and 5pm while crews connect the newly constructed watermain to the existing network. Supply will begin to return gradually as the network recharges.
In addition to this interruption, a number of short, localised interruptions will be required over the next three weeks to facilitate further connections along the route of the new watermain. These brief interruptions will support the safe and timely commissioning of the upgraded infrastructure and will be communicated locally as they arise.
Speaking about the works, Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "Commissioning and testing the new network is an important step before it can be fully operational. These upgrades will significantly strengthen the water network and ensure a more secure water supply for the community. We want to thank all residents and businesses for their continued patience and cooperation as we deliver these long term improvements for the area."

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann is continuing to advance essential water network upgrades in Ballymahon. Once complete, the project will provide a more reliable and secure water supply, reduce leakage, minimise the risk of supply disruptions, and future proof the network to support continued growth in the area.
Works on the N55 are now nearing completion, where over 5 kms of watermains are being upgraded. Crews will then progress to the Newcastle Road, where almost 4 kms of water mains will be replaced as part of the next phase of works.
Speaking about the project, Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are committed to ensuring Ballymahon and the surrounding areas have a more resilient and reliable water supply for the future. By replacing vulnerable sections of ageing mains, we are significantly reducing leakage and strengthening the network for local homes and businesses. We greatly appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works, which will deliver long term benefits for the community.”
To safely progress to the next stage of commissioning the new infrastructure, customers in the Ballymahon and Kilcurry areas may experience low water pressure or temporary loss of supply between 9am and 1pm next Wednesday (4 February 2026). Further planned outages will be required in the coming weeks, and details will be communicated in advance. Supply will return gradually once works are complete and the network has time to recharge.
