Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is springing into action as work has commenced on a €3.5 million project to upgrade Mitchelstown’s wastewater infrastructure. This investment will support future social and economic development in the town, including the development of essential new homes in the North Cork heartland south of the Galtees.

This upgrade will increase wastewater treatment capacity, delivering more reliable, sustainable and high-quality wastewater services for the community. These upgrades will create a strong foundation for Mitchelstown to grow and thrive, supporting local housing, services, and economic opportunities.

The first phase of works involves upgrading the gravity sewer main on Clonmel Road and this will be followed by upgrades to the existing wastewater pumping station.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, TD, welcomed the commencement of this vital work in North Cork.

“The commencement of this project is very welcome and positive news for the community in Mitchelstown. Improvements in the capacity of the wastewater network will bring tangible benefits and provide the required infrastructure to service existing and new developments in the area, including much-needed new housing as reflected in our Housing Action Plan. Delivering Homes, Building Communities”.

Uisce Eireann Programme Manager, Christine Power is pleased to see works getting underway. “We are delighted to be delivering this project for the community and to be facilitating social and economic growth in the town. This is the first of a series of wastewater projects that are set to be undertaken in Mitchelstown over the coming years, highlighting our commitment to the development of the town”.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out these works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, and works are due to be completed in late 2027.

To safely and efficiently deliver these works, temporary traffic management is required. Local and emergency services access will be maintained at all times and advance signage will be in place.

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland.
