Strengthening Sligo’s water network to support growth

New water mains will boost capacity and enable future development

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann will commence the installation of new water mains in Sligo Town in the coming days, boosting capacity in the local network and supporting future housing and sustainable development in the area.

The project will see more than 700 metres of new water mains installed from Pearse Road to Crozon Park. This investment is focused on key areas of Sligo Town where there is strong potential for growth and development, helping to ensure water services can support future housing delivery.

The works will take place along Pearse Road, from the Cemetery Road junction to the Circular Road junction, as well as along Crozon Park and Circular Road.

Delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s Accelerated Growth Programme, the project is one of a number of targeted investments designed to strengthen water infrastructure in areas with development opportunities and enable communities like Sligo Town to grow.

Works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans and are expected to be completed by late autumn 2026.

Uisce Éireann Programme Manager Patricia Lowry said: “By upgrading the water network in Sligo Town, we are helping to provide the capacity needed to support new homes and future development in the area. This project is about ensuring that Sligo has the infrastructure in place to grow sustainably, while continuing to meet the needs of local homes and businesses. We understand that works like these can be disruptive, and we would like to thank the community for their patience as we deliver these essential improvements.”

To facilitate the works, traffic management will be in place. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times, and work areas will be limited to short sections where possible to minimise disruption.
