Network upgrade works to strengthen supply for Sligo customers

Uisce Éireann is set to commence network upgrade works in the coming days to replace damaged water mains serving the communities of Lough Easkey and Knockacullen. When complete, this project will reduce the disruption caused by frequent bursts.

Crews will replace 3.2 kilometres of old and damaged water mains with new modern pipes, which will significantly improve the resilience and efficiency of the local water network.

These works form part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, which focuses on reducing water loss, improving water quality and minimising disruption caused by bursts and unplanned outages.

Construction will take place along sections of the L2702 and the L63072/R297 from Lough Easkey Water Treatment Plant to Knockacullen. The works will also include the provision of new water service connections from the public water main to customer property boundaries.

To facilitate the safe delivery of the project, a road closure will be necessary on sections of the route while works are ongoing. Farrans Construction will deliver the upgrade works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project expected to be complete in the summer.

Speaking about the project, Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Patricia Lowry, said: “This important investment for communities in Lough Easkey and Knockacullen will help to secure a more reliable water supply by reducing leakage and tackling the frequent bursts that have impacted the area. Replacing ageing infrastructure is essential to improving network resilience and protecting water supplies now and into the future, and we would like to thank customers and road users for their patience while these vital works are carried out.”
