Investment in Borris-in-Ossory with major wastewater upgrade

Homes and businesses in Borris-in-Ossory and the surrounding areas are set to benefit from improved wastewater infrastructure as Uisce Éireann has recently commenced essential works to upgrade the local wastewater treatment plant.

This important investment will ensure the wastewater infrastructure can support future growth and development in the area, while continuing to protect the local environment and improve overall treatment performance. Works have recently commenced and represent an investment of over €4.1 million.

Commenting on the project, David McSharry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “This is a significant investment in Borris-in-Ossory that will ensure the wastewater infrastructure can support the needs of the community into the future. By increasing capacity and improving treatment performance, this project will help facilitate sustainable growth in the area, while also delivering key infrastructure to protect the local environment and ensure compliance with Irish and EU legislation.”

The project will include the installation of new tanks to store stormwater and treated sludge, the construction of a new treatment tank alongside upgrades to existing infrastructure, and the installation of modern equipment such as air blowers, pumps and a new control system. These works, together with associated site improvements, will enhance the overall operation and long-term reliability of the plant.

The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Conway Engineering and are expected to be completed by Autumn 2027.

Uisce Éireann would like to thank the local community for their continued patience and cooperation as these essential works are delivered and will continue to keep customers informed as the project progresses.
