Crews working to restore supply to customers in Cloonfad

Alternative water supply in place to support customers affected

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann crews are working to restore water supply to homes and businesses in Cloonfad, following another significant burst on the water main supplying the village.

The burst is impacting supply to customers in Cloonfad, Granlahan South, and surrounding areas.

Crews are on site carrying out the necessary repairs with works expected to be complete by 3pm this afternoon.

Uisce Éireann is conscious that this section of water main burst earlier this week and acknowledges the frustration of customers who have been affected by a second water outage this week. To support affected customers, alternative water supplies are in place at St. Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad, and Cloonfad soccer pitch, Lavallyroe.

Ger Greally of Uisce Éireann assured affected customers that crews are working quickly as possible to repair the burst and restore supply.

“We understand the inconvenience and frustration caused by repeated unplanned outages, and we wish to thank impacted customers for their patience as we work to restore supply. Unfortunately, often when repairs are made to one section of water main, it can place increased pressure on a nearby section and lead to a burst and this is what has happened in Cloonfad this week. Once normal operations resume this afternoon, it will take several hours for the network to refill and supply to return to all customers particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network who may experience low pressure."

Previous Updates

Repairs to two bursts on a water main in Cloonfad have been completed and the network is currently recharging. The bursts between Lowberry Cross and Cloonfad had resulted in supply interruptions for some customers in Cloonfad, Granlahan South, and surrounding areas.

Repairs were completed at noon and supply levels in the area are currently returning to normal. However, it may take longer for those on higher ground or at the end of the network to have a full supply restored and to support customers, alternative water supplies will remain in place at St. Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad, and Cloonfad soccer pitch, Lavallyroe until 4pm this afternoon.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Oliver McKeon of Uisce Éireann thanked affected customers for their cooperation while repairs were underway.

“Uisce Éireann acknowledges the inconvenience caused by unplanned outages and thanks customers for their patience and cooperation while these works were carried out. We regret any inconvenience caused. Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.”
