Continuing to crack down on leaks in the Galtee region

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

The community of Mount Bruis and the surrounding areas can look forward to a more secure and reliable water supply, as Uisce Éireann are due to begin further works to reduce high levels of leakage in the area.

Over 2.6km of aged water mains will be replaced between Ardloman Reservoir and Mount Bruis as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme. This follows the recent replacement of over 5.3km of mains between Ardloman Reservoir and Shronell.

Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this next phase of work underway.

“Replacing these old and damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network that are currently impacting the local community, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground. The works will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged watermains.

“These improvements are crucial for supporting communities in this part of Tipperary to thrive and will ensure a more resilient water supply for years to come. In advance of the works commencing, we would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as we carry out these essential works.”

Uisce Éireann is committed to improving water services across the Galtee Regional Water Supply Scheme, and this investment will result in a more secure and robust water supply for the local community. These sections of water main have been the cause of many supply disruptions in the area of late. Following completion of these works benefits will be realised, with a significant reduction in the instances of bursts and outages impacting the local community.

Separately, an additional 6.2km of water main has recently been replaced between Thomastown and Ballymacaddy, which is also part of the Galtee Regional Water Supply Scheme.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and can also have an impact on supply during delivery. Work crews continue to make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works may cause.

Shareridge is carrying out these works under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and they are expected to be completed in Spring 2026.
