Uisce Éireann customers in North Galway are reaping the benefits of a more secure and reliable supply of drinking water after the completion of a major programme of mains replacements.
Crews recently completed reinstatement works to bring the curtain down on a programme of works which saw more than 3km of new water mains laid between Carheens and Caherlistrane.
A total of 3,023 metres of aging water mains has been replaced with new, modern pipes. The works were carried out along the L2111 road, from its junction with the R333, down through the townland of Caltra and on to the junction with the L2112 at Carheens Crossroads.
Enda MacNamara, Programme Manage with Uisce Éireann, acknowledged the support and patience shown by members of the local community while these works were in progress, and highlighted the benefits of the project for local homes and businesses.
“We wish to extend our thanks to local residents, businesses and road users for their co-operation during the period of these works,” said Enda.
“We understand the inconvenience and disruption that traffic management measures can cause, but these were necessary to ensure this significant project was delivered safely.
“Homes and businesses in the Caherlistrane and Carheens areas are now benefitting from a more secure and reliable water supply because of these works. The new mains will also significantly reduce the likelihood of operational issues on the network moving forward, while also reducing the volume of water lost to leakage,” he continued.
The works were carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
