Delivery of €11m wastewater project to unlock over 3,000 homes in Midleton
01 October 2026
Uisce Éireann has commenced an €11millon project to upgrade the wastewater infrastructure in Midleton, helping to support the delivery of over 3,000 new homes and enabling the sustainable growth of the local community. The project is being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, which is focused on providing the essential infrastructure communities need to thrive. The works involve the construction of a new Wastewater Pumping Station (WWPS) at the existing Bailick WWPS site and the installation of 1.9km of new wastewater pipe.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD welcomed the commencement of these works. “We welcome the commencement of this project that will support the development of much needed housing. Continued investment in wastewater infrastructure is essential to facilitating housing delivery and to the overall development of cities and towns throughout Ireland. The increased funding that we have allocated to Uisce Éireann will accelerate the delivery of the necessary infrastructure to support the development of new homes across the country.”
Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Ciaran Ryan is looking forward to delivering this project for the community in Midleton. “This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including vital, planned residential development. The increase of the capacity of the existing wastewater network will also deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality wastewater services for the local community”.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. and are expected to be complete in early 2028.
Initial works at Bailick Pumping Station will be contained to the existing site. To safely and efficiently deliver the wastewater pipe installation works, temporary traffic management will be required. The community will be notified in advance of this, and local and emergency services access will be maintained at all times and advance signage will be in place.
